Our Victron Energy AGM Deep Cycle batteries offer excellent performance at high intensity and are therefore recommended for applications such as engine starting.

Gel vs. AGM Batteries

Due to their design, gel batteries have a lower actual capacity at high intensity. Conversely, gel batteries have better lifespan in float mode. AGM stands for Absorbent Glass Mat. In these batteries, the electrolyte is absorbed by capillarity into a fiberglass mat located between the plates. As explained in our book "Energy Without Limits", AGM batteries are more suitable for supplying very high currents for short periods (starting) than gel batteries.
