IP Rating

The first digit refers to protection against solid objects, while the second digit refers to protection against liquids.

Solid Object Protection

• 0: No protection
• 1: Protected against solid objects up to 50mm, such as accidental contact with a hand
• 2: Protected against solid objects up to 12mm, such as fingers
• 3: Protected against solid objects up to 2.5mm (tools and wires)
• 4: Protected against solid objects up to 1mm (small tools and wires)

Liquid Protection

• 0: No protection
• 1: Protected against dripping water from a vertical drop (condensation)
• 2: Protected against splashing water at angles up to 15° from the vertical
• 3: Protected against direct spraying of water at angles up to 60° from the vertical
• 4: Protection against water spray from all directions
• 5: Protected against dust; limited penetration (does not form harmful deposits)
• 6: Total protection against dust
• 7: Protected against the effects of immersion between 15cm and 1m
• 8: Protected against prolonged periods of immersion under pressure
