ACS355 Machinery Controller: Three-Phase Input Variable Speed Drive (VSD)

The drive is programmed with parameters, and like all ABB drives, the parameters are organized into logical groups. The software installed within the drive has functions that allow it to handle machinery applications. It incorporates an 8-step sequence program that allows machine automation to be incorporated within the drive (available in 16 steps from ABB). Timer functions can operate at different times of the day, and monitoring parameters can make decisions based on machine variables.

To enhance machinery applications, the drive can be equipped with an interface for all fieldbuses, and I/O can be used to synchronize motors with a pulse train. The drives also have pre-programmed protection functions for the motor and load, and are equipped with a standard integrated braking resistor to help stop dynamic loads (an external resistor is required).

Motor control is scalar or vector control (open or closed loop), which allows the ACS355 to handle more precise applications. The drive can power induction and PM motors, enabling more complex machinery applications to be executed, and the integrated braking resistor allows for greater dynamic operations to be carried out. The drive incorporates a standard two-channel Safe Torque Off (STO) for SIL 3, PLe. The ACS355 can also be equipped with a range of fieldbuses, encoders, or extended I/O options.

An IP66 variant suitable for the food and beverage sector is also available through ABB. The drive can be used to control fans and pumps, but the ACS310 may be more suitable for these applications.
