Pluto Safety PLC, Base Unit
ABB's Pluto is an "all-in-one" safety PLC concept that simplifies the design of safety systems and achieves the highest level of safety category 4 according to EN 954-1. All Pluto units are masters and can see the inputs, outputs, and global memories of other Plutos.
This allows Pluto to evaluate information from the other Pluto and make decisions regarding its own safety devices. Gateway units are available for various bus systems: Profibus ( ), CanOpen ( ), DeviceNet ( ), and Ethernet ( ).
Pluto Features
- Pluto inputs (the smallest unit has 16 I/O) can be configured as inputs or outputs.
- Most modules in the Pluto family have dual safety outputs: potential-free or PNP types.
- Up to 32 Pluto units can be connected securely in a two-wire bus system and communicate with a higher-level system through a gateway or HMI displays.
- Therefore, within a maximum extended system, up to 1472 I/O can be connected.
- All input components can be connected in series for greater complexity and optimization.
Programming and Connectivity
Pluto offers simple and easy-to-use programming functions. It is easy to configure and install, with up to 640 I/O. Multiple Plutos can be connected on a bus (using the IDFIX identifier) and then connect to external networks using a gateway. A typical example code is ( ).
Pluto boasts a high level of security. Free software is available for programming via bus. It mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail.
IDFIX
The IDFIX ( ) is an identification circuit that allows identifying multiple Plutos when connecting to a bus system. This module is available to distribute a PLC program within a network of Pluto devices.
Tina adapters like ( ) can be used to connect external safety control equipment.
Note
The IDFIX device ( ) connects between the input terminal identification and 0V (also note that the IDFIX device is not needed when using a single Pluto; however, the absence of an IDFIX must be indicated when programming the Pluto device).
